Depending on the illumination direction, azimuth, and degree of vertical exaggeration, hillshades can be used to highlight subtle geomorphology and seafloor features.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>These data present a modelled multi-directional hillshade derived from the bathymetric elevation model (</SPAN><SPAN>1 </SPAN><SPAN>m resolution) of the HS5</SPAN><SPAN>3</SPAN><SPAN> - </SPAN><SPAN>Kawau Island</SPAN><SPAN> survey area. Survey HS5</SPAN><SPAN>3</SPAN><SPAN> was undertaken by Discovery Marine Limited (DML) on behalf of Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) for hydrographic charting purposes.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>Compared to traditional hillshades which are illuminated from a single source point only, a multi-directional hillshade is illuminated from 6 separate directions simultaneously, resulting in a more 'natural' expression of terrain. This hillshade has been vertically exaggerated by a factor of 3, resulting in greater expression of more subtle geomorphology.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV> |
