Depending on the illumination direction, azimuth, and degree of vertical exaggeration, hillshades can be used to highlight subtle geomorphology and seafloor features.<\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN>These data present a modelled multi-directional hillshade derived from the bathymetric elevation model (<\/SPAN><SPAN>1 <\/SPAN><SPAN>m resolution) of the HS5<\/SPAN><SPAN>3<\/SPAN><SPAN> - <\/SPAN><SPAN>Kawau Island<\/SPAN><SPAN> survey area. Survey HS5<\/SPAN><SPAN>3<\/SPAN><SPAN> was undertaken by Discovery Marine Limited (DML) on behalf of Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) for hydrographic charting purposes.<\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN>Compared to traditional hillshades which are illuminated from a single source point only, a multi-directional hillshade is illuminated from 6 separate directions simultaneously, resulting in a more 'natural' expression of terrain. This hillshade has been vertically exaggerated by a factor of 3, resulting in greater expression of more subtle geomorphology.<\/SPAN><\/P><\/DIV><\/DIV><\/DIV>",
