Bathymetric_slope (MapServer)

View In:   ArcGIS JavaScript   NIWA ArcGIS Enterprise Map Viewer   ArcGIS Earth   ArcGIS Pro

Service Description:

Bathymetric slope (in degrees) was calculated from bathymetric depth and is the degree change from one depth value to the next. This information is relevant to understanding water and sediment flows as well as highlighting seafloor canyons. Slope is especially relevant acceleration of currents and to the stability of seafloor sediments as well as grain size and the accumulation of different types of sediments, which selects for different assemblages of species. For this map, the average gradient in the horizontal and vertical directions at each location was calculated using the Benthic Terrain Modeller (BTM) v3.0 toolbox for ArcGIS.
